Why is this Important?

  1. Clarity of Objectives, Outcomes and End Game:  Your Mission and Your Vision
  2. Clear communication to staff and your clients why your Company exists:  Your Purpose
  3. Hiring people who can and will support and enhance your Dream: Your Values
Purpose: Why your business is in existence-what you want to accomplish through your business.  (one to two sentences, max)
Links Vision with Goals and Mission.
Vision: BHAG: How will the world be different as a result of your business (how will this be measured)
Base your vision statements on the best possible outcome. In fact, you might want to envision something even better than what you consider to be the best possible outcome. Remember that the purpose of the vision statement is to inspire, energize, motivate, and stimulate your creativity, not to serve as a measuring stick for success; that is the job of your objectives and goals.
Vision Statements also define the organizations purpose, but this time they do so in terms of the organization’s values rather than bottom line measures (values are guiding beliefs about how things should be done.) The vision statement communicates both the purpose and values of the organization. For employees, it gives direction about how they are expected to behave and inspires them to give their best. Shared with customers, it shapes customers’ understanding of why they should work with the organization.
Mission: How you will accomplish your Vision
Its prime function is internal – to define the key measure or measures of the organization’s success – and its prime audience is the leadership team and stockholders.
Values: Top 5-7 values your company demonstrates regularly.  These are NOT values you desire, wish, want to have.  These are the values your company is currently demonstrating.  (Note:  If you don’t like your current values you will need to eliminate the employees who are currently displaying those values.
